Treatments recognised by the NHS
Our water has always been recommended in various chronic diseases of the respiratory system and in otorhinolaryngology (rhinitis, laryngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis) and for osteoarticular diseases (chronic rheumatism, chronic arthropathies, trauma outcomes) both for treatment and for prevention.
The Antica Querciolaia Spa provides services recognised by the National Health System.
12 mud treatments and 12 therapeutic baths for chronic diseases of the osteoarticular system (widespread arthrosis, cervical-arthrosis, lumbar arthrosis, etc.)
12 inhalations and 12 aerosols for diseases of the respiratory apparatus (chronic sinusitis, chronic pharyngitis, chronic bronchitis, etc.)
12 endotypmanic insufflations and 12 aerosols for chronic diseases of the ear (chronic catarrhal otitis, secretory otitis, etc.)
12 therapeutic baths for skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema and atopic dermatitis).
The National Health Service allows just 1 cycle of spa treatments of the duration of 12 days, during the entire calendar year, nationwide, upon payment of the required ticket. Patients who are not exempt from payment, pay a ticket of 55 euro for the entire cycle of treatments. Specific incomes or personal situations entitle to a reduced ticket of 3,10 euro or total exemption. To make use of the treatments recognised by the NHS you need to present the medical prescription indicating any exemption drawn up on the regional prescription booklet by your family physician / paediatrician of your choice or by a specialist in one of the branches relating to the treatable diseases. The prescription must indicate the diagnosis and related cycle of treatments. The booking is necessary to access the preferred hours for the treatments, otherwise they are not guaranteed.
The treatments can also be done privately.

Mud Treatments and Spa Baths
The therapeutic properties of our mud matured in sulphurous bicarbonate-calcium spa water are due to its temperature, the mineral substances dissolved in it, its chemical-physical conditions, its radioactivity and to the presence of plant and animal microorganisms. It has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, healing effect, stimulating the process of repair, sedative, stimulating the immune system, stimulating cell turnover, detoxifying. The combination with the ozone hydromassage ensures that it is enriched with the properties of ozone, which dissolved in water through damp skin easily reaches tissues with stimulating effects and activating microcirculation. For inhalation, it promotes the absorption of the various salts present in spa water through the airways. Suitable in the prevention and care of chronic degenerative diseases of the osteoarticular system (arthrosis in the various locations: lumbar, cervical, etc; chronic mono and polyarticular rheumatism; post-traumatic outcomes of the locomotor system; articular rigidity and post-traumatic arthrosis). Mud treatments and spa baths have always been at the centre of therapeutic treatments and ongoing in-depth scientific attention, which our facility has also successfully pursued with research work carried out and published in association with the University of the Studies of Siena and the Department of Rheumatology for therapeutic effectiveness in arthro-rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

Inhalation and Aerosol Therapy
Combining spa water with steam or air produces microparticles of varying diameter; in Inhalations, the particles reach a size of around 100 microns, and, through a jet, they reach the patient’s upper airways; in Aerosols, the size is around 1-2 microns and through the mask or nasal cannula, they reach the deeper airways as far as the pulmonary alveoli. Inhalations are suitable for chronic rhino-pharyngeal-laryngitis, sinusitis and tonsillitis; the Aerosols for tracheitis, trachea-bronchitis and chronic bronchitis. Spa Micronized Showers cleanse the nasal cavities with spa water useful in all Chronic and Hypertrophic Rhinitis. Finally, Moist Spraying is a collective spa treatment in rooms where a mist of microparticles of 50-60 microns of spa water and steam is generated indicated for tracheitis, tracheobronchitis and chronic bronchitis. The specialist physician also carries out Endotympanic Insufflations using spa aerosols through the Eustachian Tube for the prevention and treatment of Rhinogenic Deafness of Tube Insufficiency. The latter can be carried out in one of two ways, Itard catheter or Chrenotherapeutic Politzer (indicated above all in paediatric age). To complete the therapeutic cycle an audiometry test and/or tympanogram will be carried out to verify auditory function.
